POWERFUL ATMOSPHERE WITH HISTORICAL FASCINATION

The Reichspost had built the capital’s communications center on this site in the 1920s and 1930s. The ultimate feature of the facility was its own emergency and backup power supply, which was intended to make the critical communications center independent of the Berlin power grid and ensure uninterrupted operation in the event of an accident.

This remained the case even after the Second World War, and so the foundations of the lodge’s hall, which had been destroyed during the war, were used to install a massive emergency power generator. This gigantic marine diesel engine still stands today, properly cleaned and maintained, on its pedestal. The surrounding building, which was also completely renovated, still serves as a supply, albeit for catering purposes.

renovation

The building has been expanded and modernized.
The impressive machinery and steel girders will be preserved and integrated into the spatial concept.
