A new public square
in the heart of Berlin

FORUM AN DER MUSEUMSINSEL®

Immerse yourself in Berlin’s modern, urban life with significant architecture spanning four centuries.
Hardly anywhere in the German capital is the history and culture of our country so present. Located directly on the Spree River and in close proximity to the UNESCO World Heritage Museum Island, the FORUM an der MUSEUMSINSEL® is located. A new central city square in the heart of Berlin, featuring eight listed buildings, welcomes visitors with exciting stories.

history

For the past two centuries, what is now the FORUM at MUSEUMSINSEL® has been a center of communication and science. Here, visitors can learn about the origins of Berlin’s modern media world and experience the spirit of researchers and professors from previous generations. Starting in the mid-19th century, the northern part of the site became an innovative postal and communications center, reaching far beyond Berlin’s borders.

Up to 20,000 telegrams left the main telegraph office daily, sending messages via Europe’s oldest pneumatic tube system, which at the end of the 1930s had a 253.6 km long network. Hundreds of operators connected people with the latest telephone technology—a fascinating prospect in the age of smartphones and tablets.

Diverse and cosmopolitan

The FORUM at MUSEUMSINSEL® forms the interface between culture and the scene. Within walking distance are the places that make Berlin, in all its contrasts, one of the world’s most exciting metropolises.

Whether it’s the trendy district at Hackescher Markt and Oranienburger Straße, the gallery district for contemporary art, or Rosenthaler- and Torstraße as a melting pot of creative trends – the FORUM at the MUSEUMSINSEL® lets visitors experience Berlin’s vibrant life directly.

Directly opposite is the Neues Museum, a cultural-historical monument, and other attractions such as the Humboldt Forum in the reconstructed Berlin City Palace, the German Historical Museum, the Friedrichstadtpalast, Unter den Linden Boulevard and much more.
