The Forum on Museum Island, located between the traditional Bode Museum and the creative gallery district around Auguststrasse and Linienstrasse, is increasingly establishing itself as a new art location \u2013 not least due to the presence of K\u00d6NIG GALERIE, which is making a striking statement here.<\/p>\n

The K\u00d6NIG GALERIE has developed into a dynamic platform for contemporary art in Berlin and beyond. Founded in 2002 by Johann K\u00f6nig as “Johann K\u00f6nig, Berlin,” the gallery specializes in presenting the works of emerging and established international artists, with a particular focus on younger generations. The program is characterized by interdisciplinary, conceptual approaches and encompasses a broad spectrum of artistic media, from sculpture and painting to video and installation, printmaking, photography, and performance. <\/p>\n

K\u00d6NIG TELEGRAPHENAMT presents FUGUE IN OXIDE, an exhibition of new works by Alexander Wertheim. It is the artist\u2019s second solo exhibition with the gallery.<\/span><\/p>\n

Alexander Wertheim\u2019s recent works explore the tension between structure and spontaneity. Intersecting vertical and horizontal lines suggest grid-like formations, yet irregular spacing, blurred contours, and visible brushstrokes disrupt any sense of strict order. The move from spray paint to brush introduces a more immediate, painterly gesture, allowing the compositions to feel both constructed and intuitively formed.<\/p>\n

Positioned between the poles of grid and gesture, Wertheim\u2019s practice draws on traditions of modernism and Abstract Expressionism while questioning the nature of painting itself. The grid emerges not as a rigid system, but as an almost incidental framework shaped by free, spontaneous marks\u2014reflecting an ongoing exploration of freedom, constraint, and the elusive search for balance.<\/p>\n
